Опасан напад 7. маја на генерала Радислава Крстића у затвору Вејкфилд (Велика Британија) је драматична илустрација неуспеха да се обезбеди сигурност заробљеника међународних судова.
Србин, пореклом из Босне, генерал Крстић осуђен је на 35 година затвора од стране Међународног кривичног суда за бившу Југославију (МКСЈ) за саучесништво у сребреничком масакру 1995, иако је утврђено да он није био директно умешан у злочиначка погубљења. Генерал Крстића је у више наврата негирао било какво сазнање масакра у то време, и његова казна се сматра претераном и политички мотивисаном од стране многих информисаних посматрача који верују да је случај треба да буде поново отворен.
7. маја, генерал Крстић је био физички нападнут од стране три
затвореника идентификованих као “Муслимани”. Извештено је да је
22-годишњи албанац Индрит Краснићи пререзао грло генерала Крстића,
замало промашивши аорту.
Краснићи, 22, је служио доживотну казну изречену од британског закона за мучење и убиство 16-то годишње девојке. Вејкфилд затвор, на северу Енглеске је посебно намењен криминалцима који одслужују дугогодишње казне за тешка сексуална кривична дела.
Сматрамо да је крајње неодговорно од британске власти да дозволи затварање генерала Крстића, који је у основи ратни заробљеник, у таквом окружењу. Сада 62-годишњи, генерал Крстић је онеспособњен, пошто је изгубио ногу током босанског рата. Постоји очигледна опасност у затварању генерала Крстића, оптуженог за тешке злочине над Муслиманима, у региону Енглеске са посебно великим бројем муслиманског становништва. Тврдња да је напад био мотивисан “муслиманском осветом “служи као димна завеса за покриће одговорности британских власти. Скоро фаталан напад на генерала Крстића, долази после необичне серије смрти затвореника Међународног Кривичног трибунала за бившу Југославију и Руанду. Ми, доле потписани, захтевамо: 1. Званичну истрагу инцидента који се десио 7. маја.
2. Хитно пребацивање генерала Крстића у земљу која је у стању да обезбеди његову личну безбедност, на пример у Норвешку, или Србију на захтев власти у Београду.
3. Крај равнодушности влада, организација за људска права и медија за судбину затвореника ад хок кривичних трибунала, често преувеличано жигосаних од стране медија и без заштите коју даје судски процес у нормалним националним судовима.
